Salsa

Absolutely mouth-watering, isn’t it? Such a refreshing salsa…. simple, fresh ingredients, very easy to make. Tastes superb! What more can we ask for? More of a summer time favorite when the tomatoes are so abundant, but equally enjoyable on a cold winter day like today …… when it’s snowing outside.

Salsa

  • 6 medium sized tomatoes, finely chopped

  • 1 medium sized onion, finely chopped

  • 1 green chili or jalapeno, finely chopped

  • 1/2 key lime

  • a small bunch of fresh cilantro(coriander), finely chopped

  • salt

The key to the taste of this salsa is what my uncle told me when I was a kid. He used to make the best tasting ‘raita’ and once I asked him how did it taste that good every time? He said we should mix the onion, chili and salt first, using hand with a gentle squeeze and leave it for some time to bring the best flavors out. Only then add the tomatoes and everything else. Raita or salsa – the same ingredients being used, I always followed what he said and believe me it does make a big difference.

Mix the chopped onions, green chili and some salt in a bowl using hand with a gentle squeeze. Keep it covered for 30 minutes. Add the chopped tomatoes and cilantro. Squeeze the lime juice over. Taste and adjust the salt. As always, please change the proportions according to your taste. Serve with tortilla chips.
